Creative Arts

Art Initiative – The Art Initiative, an original program to Easter Seals Southwest Florida, began as a technique of occupational therapy and then blossomed into a creative outlet for many of our consumers. Through designing and creating, our artists have acquired valuable social and emotional skills such as increased self-esteem, self-expression, and a sense of accomplishment. The program’s instructor, a graduate of the Ringling School of Art and Design, teaches concepts of art, such as shading, depth perception, and layout. In addition to the instructional aspects of the program, Art Initiative participants have the opportunity to earn income by selling their completed works at various community venues.

Vocal Arts – Our adult consumers love music and many of them enjoy singing along to their favorite tunes! In response to their interests, staff at Easter Seals Southwest Florida assists the adults in a weekly karaoke event. In addition to karaoke, once a year, staff organizes and implements Easter Seals Idol, which is modeled off of the popular television show American Idol. Easter Seals Idol runs for 10 weeks and includes all of the excitement and drama of the show – including auditions, voting, and our own version of Simon Cowell!

Musical Arts – Musicians at Easter Seals Southwest Florida meet weekly to discover the many avenues of creative expression available through music. Whether a musician is learning a specific instrument, or more academic skills such as following instructions, keeping time, or learning rhythm, many of our adult participants enjoy this activity.
